Energy high at Best of Breeds bull sale

Yorkton auction sees strong prices and upbeat atmosphere fueled by booming cattle markets

key points from this story:

  • Report covers Yorkton bull auction
  • Buyers show strong enthusiasm
  • Cull bulls selling for up to $7,000
  • Top bulls exceed $30,000 at auction
  • Cattle markets currently very strong
  • Producers optimistic about herd genetics

There is typically a feeling at an auction sale that is just a little different. Maybe it’s the social aspect of such gatherings – friends and neighbours talking over coffee about things not necessarily related to whatever is being sold that day. Maybe it’s that an auction is perhaps the ultimate way to determine the value of what’s being sold. If you want something, you can bid until it’s no longer worth what another bidder is willing to pay. Sometimes it’s simply the general energy which seems to permeate some auctions. That was certainly how I would describe the atmosphere of the ‘Best of Breeds Bull Sale’ I visited at Heartland Livestock in Yorkton Sunday.
