"We are proud to support initiatives like Disability Employment Awareness Month and the work SARC is doing to create meaningful employment opportunities for people with disabilities across the province."
DEAM is an opportunity to highlight the benefits of inclusive hiring and recognize the importance of a diverse workforce and celebrate the many contributions people with disabilities make to Saskatchewan businesses and communities.
"Accessible and inclusive workplaces benefit employees, employers and our province," Social Services Minister Terry Jenson said. "Disability Employment Awareness Month serves as a reminder to continue fostering environments where people with disabilities can develop their talents and have a positive impact on their communities."
The Government of Saskatchewan has invested over $10 million in 2026-27 for workforce development programming that helps people with disabilities prepare for, secure and maintain meaningful employment. The Saskatchewan Labour Market Strategy: Building the Workforce for a Growing Economy outlines actions the government is taking to increase the number of people with disabilities in the labour force, including investing in Employability Assistance for Persons with Disabilities programs across Saskatchewan.
"We appreciate the Government of Saskatchewan's continued recognition of October as Disability Employment Awareness Month," SARC Executive Director Amy McNeil said. "DEAM highlights the valuable skills and perspectives people experiencing disability bring to the workplace while celebrating employers that are building more inclusive workforces. By recognizing talent and removing barriers to employment, Saskatchewan businesses can strengthen their organizations, communities, and our province's economy."
