Scarecrows take over the valley!

Beginning with a huge amount of volunteer visualization and labour, the Scarecrow Festival, held on September 23, 2023, turned out to be a great success, even with the early morning drizzle.

The day began at the Lumsden & District Heritage Home with a pancake breakfast and numerous games for children to play, a magician show put on by Daniel Bernier, chicken races, face painting, a puppy display from Bright Eyes Dog Rescue, and members of the rider cheer squad engaging the kids and audience members in some light exercises. These events were put together by Friends of the Heritage Home.

Other events of the day include the Lumsden Historical Museum car show, historical tours of the museum buildings, and a lunch of chilli and hotdogs. The Lumsden Volunteer Fire Department hosted a BBQ, as well as a beer garden. On the other side of James Street, the Dew Drop Inn served pie from noon to 4 pm. Three teams of horses gave wagon rides in the afternoon.
