Maintenance & Water Treatment Operator
Location: Village of Bulyea, SaskatchewanPosition Type: Temporary Time Type: 20 hours per week/Monday to Friday

About the Role:
The Village of Bulyea is seeking a dedicated and versatile Maintenance & Water Treatment Operator to oversee the planning, operation, and maintenance of municipal infrastructure and water/wastewater systems. This role combines hands-on technical work with planning, reporting, and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance Operations:
- Plan and implement public works services, especially streets and roads.
- Maintain and repair equipment, shop, and work areas.
- Keep an accurate record of service logs.
- Conduct seasonal maintenance (e.g., snow removal, grass cutting, tree pruning).
- Monitor and maintain waste disposal site (landfill).
- Coordinate with contractors and ensure quality assurance.
Water & Wastewater Operations:
- Operate and monitor water and wastewater systems daily.
- Responsible for regular observation of the lagoon and lift stations.
- Maintain accurate logs and records; collect and prepare samples.
- Respond to system failures and emergencies.
- Ensure compliance with Water Security Agency regulations.
- Maintain fire hydrants, curb stops and perform line flushing.
Planning & Communication:
- Report to the Chief Administrative Officer and Council; attend meetings as needed.
- Liaise with vendors, engineers, and government agencies.
- Maintain positive public relations with community members.
Supervision:
- Provide direction to contractors and train uncertified operators.
Qualifications:
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preference will be given to applicants with Class 1 Water Treatment & Distribution Certificate & Class 1 Wastewater Treatment & Collection Certificate.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work flexible hours and be on-call for emergencies.
- Familiarity with Occupational Health & Safety standards.
- Must be willing to submit a criminal record check and references.
Additional Information:
- Travel within the region is required – village vehicle provided for work-related travel.
- Must be comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- PPE must be worn at all times during operations.
- Continuing Education Units (CEU) of training per year is required.
- Training & Safety courses supported in the completion of relevant certifications which may include:
- Power Mobile Equipment (PME);
- WHIMIS;
- Pesticide Application;
- Skid steer Operator;
- Ground Disturbance;
- Fall Protection;
- Confined Space Certification
