These rich traditions indicate the significance of the occasion, as well as its historical place within our parliamentary system of government."

The public is invited to observe the outdoor ceremony, which begins at 1:20 p.m. in front of the Legislative Building at 2405 Legislative Drive. The Lieutenant Governor will be greeted by the Honourable Scott Moe, Premier of Saskatchewan, who will lead the traditional opening day of session ceremonies. The ceremonies will include an inspection of a Canadian Forces Honour Guard, 15-gun salute and flypast by 15 Wing Moose Jaw.

"It is my honour to join the Lieutenant Governor and participate in this ceremony, which is an important part of Saskatchewan tradition and history," Moe said. "There is important work ahead for Saskatchewan's Legislative Assembly. I look forward to what we can achieve this session in service to the people of Saskatchewan."

The opening of the Legislative Assembly has taken place to mark each session since 1906, when representatives of the Legislature, the Executive and the Judiciary first gathered to hear Lieutenant Governor Amedee Forget acknowledge expressions of welcome into the Canadian Federation from Parliament in Ottawa and the other provincial Legislatures.
