Key points from this story:

  • Regina long-term care 30% complete
  • RSLTC will have 240 beds
  • Weyburn hospital opens November 1
  • SaskPolytechnic simulation lab completed
  • RSLTC construction expected fall 2028

"The projects featured in this month's update reflect our government's commitment to investing in health care infrastructure," SaskBuilds and Procurement Minister Sean Wilson said. "As work continues across the province this fall, these investments are strengthening communities, supporting a strong and steady Saskatchewan and creating lasting benefits that will help keep our province a great place to live, work and raise a family for years to come." This month's MCU highlights key milestones across Saskatchewan, including progress on the Regina Specialized Long-Term Care Home project, the ribbon-cutting event for the Weyburn General Hospital project, and the substantial completion of construction on Saskatchewan Polytechnic's eighth-floor Regina campus renovations, which transformed the space to support a state-of-the-art high-fidelity simulation laboratory for hands-on student training. "This project demonstrates our commitment to increasing training capacity and growing a highly skilled workforce to serve communities across Saskatchewan," Advanced Education Minister Ken Cheveldayoff said. "The new simulation lab at Saskatchewan Polytechnic will support the expansion of registered nurse and licensed practical nurse education, giving students access to innovative training tools that better prepare them for careers in health care."

Regina Specialized Long-Term Care Home (RSLTC) Today, Government of Saskatchewan and project partners gathered at the RSLTC project site to celebrate the 30 per cent construction completion milestone. Construction sequencing is following a phased approach with construction of the facility divided into four wings. Completed activities to date include construction of two wings up to the sixth floor, with the remaining two wings progressing through framing and concrete slab pouring to develop the floor levels. The south parking lot has also been completed, including paving, curbs and bollards.

"It is exciting to see the Regina Specialized Long-Term Care Home take shape, knowing it will soon provide residents with high-quality care in a comfortable, home-like environment," Mental Health and Addictions, Seniors and Rural and Remote Health Minister Lori Carr said. "Putting patients first means investing in the facilities and infrastructure that will serve Saskatchewan residents for years to come." Exterior framing and boarding, mechanical and electrical installs and concrete work is underway, with roof work and window and door frame installs beginning in the coming months. "We continue to progress on plan with respect to both budget and schedule, which is a testament to the strong partnerships, collaboration and shared commitment of everyone involved in the project," Graham Construction Ltd. General Manager Brad Kornum said. "With approximately 85 per cent of the structure complete and the building envelope well underway, focus is increasingly shifting to the building interior. The team recently completed the first-stage review of the resident room mock-ups with User Groups, helping ensure that room layouts and functionality meet both patient care needs and staff requirements." The new home will provide 240 specialized long-term care beds to support the needs of residents with dementia, complex behavioural needs and other conditions requiring specialized care, such as acquired brain injury. Construction is expected to be complete in fall 2028.

Weyburn General Hospital A ribbon-cutting event was held on October 23, 2026, to celebrate the completion of the new Weyburn General Hospital, which will begin welcoming patients on November 1, 2026. The new facility will improve access to health care in southeast Saskatchewan by bringing expanded acute care, emergency, surgical, mental health and diagnostic services together in one modern location.

Did You Know: The RSLTC project is five stories tall and is nearly 22,000 m2, or over 236,000 ft2, in size. This is equivalent to four football fields or 26 hockey rinks and is 2.6 times the size of Regina's Bunge International Trade Centre.
